One source said an announcement could come "in the next couple of days. " Asked about the state of negotiations following Sunday's morning practice, Noah smiled but declined to comment. The exact amount of the extension is unknown but believed to be in the $60 million range total. Incentives can take the deal higher, and a source said the inclusion of these incentives represented the breakthrough in negotiations. Sources said earlier published reports portraying the negotiations as acrimonious or far apart were overblown. The Tribune reported in June that the Bulls would make re-signing Noah to an extension a major priority. Noah all along sought security because a new collective bargaining agreement will be negotiated to begin after this season and length and amount of contracts will be addressed. Noah has fully recovered from the plantar fasciitis that plagued him down the stretch of last season, when he averaged 10.7 points and 11 rebounds in 64 games. The fourth-year big man increased those averages to 14.8 points and 13 rebounds during the playoff series with the Cavaliers.
