Bulls Situation
- Next season, Rose, Boozer, Deng and Noah will combine for 57.1 million in
payroll which will increase mildly over time.
- Derrick Rose new contract will now start off at 17.4 million instead of
14.5 million per the new CBA. We will now be paying him 101.6 million for a 6
year extension instead of 84.2 million.
- Sources say the Bulls intend to waive Bogans, Pargo, Lucas II. However,
these are unconfirmed reports.
- Our Mid Level Exception is $5 Million for 4 Years.
- Our Mid Level Exception for the 2012-2013 Season, we're looking at using
the smaller Mid Level Exception which would be $3 Million for 4 Years. This
depends on if we keep Asik, Korver, Watson, and Brewer as almost all of them
would need to be traded or released moving forward in order for us to use the
full MLE which is unlikely to happen.
- Amnesty Clause is good for 6 years; 10 years if the agreement is not voided
after 6.
- 1 superstar max salary is equal to 30% of your cap. This means a team can
still add 3 superstars to their roster like the Heat did (Not good news for
the Bulls).
- Sign and Trade are still allowed (This means we could S&T for Dwight Howard)

- Free Agency Starts on December 9
- Training Camps Starts December 9
- Few Exhibition Games Will Happen
- Games begin on December 25
- Opening Day Games are Celtics Vs Knicks, Heat Vs Mavs, Bulls Vs Lakers

- Players agree to 51-49 Split (ESPN Reports Players Receive 49% over 57%.
Improved Profits Give 51%)
- High spending teams lose advantage
Salary Cap
- Owners must spend a percent of salary cap on team payroll in 1st 2 years
(90 percent of cap in years 3 and on). Minimum team salary increases to 85%
in first two years of deal and 90% in years there after.
- $2.5M for teams below salary cap to go over the cap. Those teams can't use
mid-level or bi-annual exceptions.
Mid Level Exception
- Non-taxpaying teams can use a $5M MLE for up to 4 years.
- Taxpaying teams have a $3M MLE for up to 4 years.
2nd Contracts
- Rookies who make the All NBA Team are eligible to receive an increased 2nd
contract (Applies to Rose) above the normal 2nd Year Contract Max Rate
Contract Lengths: Teams with Bird Rights
5 Year Maximum Contract (Use to be 6)
Contract Lengths: Teams without Bird Rights
4 Year Maximum Contract (Use to be 5)
Other Contract Lengths
- Rookie Contracts: No changes
- Veteran Minimum: No changes
- Escrow: 10% annual (Example: Luol Deng has funds put into an escrow)
Trio of Superstars
- 1 Max Salary is equal to 30% of your Salary Cap
- Sign and Trade (Extended Trades) is still allowed (Carmelo Anthony Trades
Allowed)
- Good news for Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, and Chris Paul
Amnesty Clause
- Last proposal allowed teams to use it on a current contract at anytime
during CBA
Luxury Tax
- No hard cap
- The same dollar-for-dollar as in the previous CBA for the first two years.
Starting in Year 3, the rates increase to $1.50 for the first $5 million
over; $1.75 for $5-$10 million over; $2.50 for $10-$15 million over; $3.25
for $15-$25 million over; and an additional 50 cents for each additional $5
million
Other Details
- Deal is valid for 10 years
- Both sides can opt out after year 6
Conclusion
- Owners won agreement per ESPN, Slam Dunk
- Agreement still pending, need to write the agreement out.
