Thibodeau denies concern over contract

The Bulls have had barely a sniff of controversy this season, but that
harmony could be threatened.
ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported Friday evening that coach Tom Thibodeau is
"dismayed" by the lack of progress on a contract extension and that "his
displeasure with the situation is an open secret in team circles."
That jibes with what team sources said: Thibodeau has raised the topic — his
lack of an extension — with Bulls players.
Thibodeau denied that after the 83-71 victory over the Pistons, saying: "I
don't know where that's coming from. I'm not worried about any of that stuff.
I'm under contract. I'm fine with everything here."
Thibodeau is in no danger of leaving Chicago any time soon, given that the
second-year coach signed a two-year deal with a team option. So the Bulls
control him through the 2012-13 season.
Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf told the Tribune via email in February: "Tom
does a great job with this team, and you see the results of his hard work
every time the players take the court. We certainly hope and expect that Tom
will be with the Bulls well beyond his current contract. However, there is
nothing to announce at this time."
The NBA's reigning coach of the year is a favorite to win the award again,
given that the Bulls have the NBA's best record despite injuries to Derrick
Rose, Richard Hamilton and Luol Deng.
"From a defensive standpoint, his players have totally bought in and embraced
the system," Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said. "And Tom knows both ends of
the floor. Sometimes guys get categorized one way, but Tom started in the
league under Bill Musselman, who was, offensively, a genius."
Waiting game: Rose missed his eighth straight game with a groin injury,
saying: "I'm feeling better, doing pool work, trying to run, getting
treatment twice a day, trying to stay positive. My speed is my whole game, so
I want to make sure I don't re-pull it."
Rose, asked if he believes the University of Illinois can have a resurgence,
replied: "I don't even know what coach they have. We haven't had that great
feeling there since the run they had with Dee Brown and D-Will (Deron
Williams). Everyone is dying and waiting for that one team to bring us back."
Ben there, done that: Former Bull Ben Wallace soared over Taj Gibson for a
second-quarter put-back. Former Bull Ben Gordon missed the game with a groin
injury. He scored 45 points March 21 in Denver but has missed 13 games with
injuries.
"Ben's a lethal scorer, one who can go for 16 in a quarter," Frank said. "He
has been a great teammate, very professional."
