Chicago Bulls Final Season Grades: Ronnie Brewer
http://ppt.cc/4AuH
Grade: C
Season Averages: 6.9 PPG, 2.1 APG, 3.5 RPG
Season Highlight: In the New Years Day blowout over the Memphis Grizzlies,
Ronnie Brewer contributed 17 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. It
was his second start as a Chicago Bull. It was the intangibles (defense,
deflections, 50/50 balls, baseline cuts, etc.) that he brought to each and
every game that makes him a unique player on the Bulls roster. At one point
in the season, Dwyane Wade called him the best baseline slasher in the league
– for his ability to roam the baseline and have the instinct to cut at the
perfect time, catching his defender off guard.
Season Lowlight: Ronnie Brewer had his most inconsistent stretch of the
season between 1/14-1/23 where he shot a combined 12-f0r-40 (30%). On 1/21
he was scoreless in 16 minutes against the NBA’s worst, the Charlotte
Bobcats – it was 1 of the 2 games failed to record a single bucket in this
season. I can also recall at least 3 times this season that Ronnie Brewer
missed an uncontested dunk.
Final Judgement: I hate to be cliche, but it was truly a roller coaster of
a season for Ronnie Brewer – and credit to his character, Ronnie Brewer
never once let any ounce of frustration show. When the Bulls acquired him in
2010-2011, Brewer was unable to fight for a starting spot due to an injury in
training camp. When the Bulls let go of then starter, Keith Bogans, Ronnie
Brewer was a shoe-in for the vacancy. However, that all changed when the
Bulls signed Rip Hamilton to a 3-year deal last off-season. Although Brewer
started 43 games this season, he knew it was temporary, and the yo-yo
activity was enough to hinder his consistency. He remains a poor scoring
option at the two guard position for his inability to knock down three’s and
create a shot off the dribble. With that said, he still remains the Bulls’
best perimeter defender behind Luol Deng.
What’s Next: Like Kyle Korver and C.J. Watson, the Bulls hold a team option
on Ronnie Brewer’s contract. With rookie Jimmy Butler a cheaper, same style
player, it is unlikely Brewer will be a Chicago Bull next season. If that is
the case, his defense, energy and team spirit will surely be missed.

Chicago Bulls Final Season Grades: Rip Hamilton

favoritesShare on google
Grade: D+
Season Averages: 11.6 PPG, 3.0 APG, 2.4 RPG (Played in 28 games)
Season Highlight: Rip Hamilton scored 18 of his 20 points in the third
quarter against the Knicks at the United Center April 10th. It was the second
game of a home-and-home against New York and the Bulls had lost the first
game in OT at MSG. Derrick Rose sprained his ankle and could not play, so it
was Rip Hamilton who put in his most meaningful 21 minutes of the 28 games he
played this season. He also had 5 assists and 4 rebounds in a game where he
didn’t even see action in the 4th quarter (it was his 4th game back from a
shoulder injury). The Bulls won 98-86. Nearing the end of the season, Bulls
fans were finally seeing what they had hoped to witness all season, a healthy
Rip Hamilton.
Season Lowlight: On April 19, Hamilton shot 1-for-6 and scored only 6 points
in a loss to the Miami Heat. Without Derrick Rose (ankle), the Bulls needed
Rip to be more of a scorer, and he couldn’t deliver. It was also only 1 of
the 28 games he saw action in this season as injuries kept him seated on the
sideline 38 times, frustrating the likes of many.
Final Judgement: Brought in as the final piece to the championship puzzle,
the anticipated starting lineup only saw 14 games together all season, as
injuries sought the fate of this year’s Chicago Bulls team. When they did
play together, the tandem of Hamilton and Rose gelled to perfection and
2011-2012 will forever represent the year of “what could have been”.
What’s Next: In all likelihood Rip Hamilton, who signed a 3-year contract
(3rd year is a team option), will remain in a Chicago Bull uniform for
2012-2013. Unless the Bulls make major moves in the off-season or pull off a
surprise trade with Hamilton in the package, Rip will be counted on as a
primary scorer next season. Himself and Carlos Boozer will have to lead the
team while Luol Deng and Derrick Rose mend on the sidelines. The Bulls
cannot afford another injury prone season from the vet.

Chicago Bulls Final Season Grades: Kyle Korver
http://ppt.cc/NOhi
More Sharing ServicesShare|Share on facebookShare on friendsterShare on
favoritesShare on google
Grade: B
Season Averages: 8.1 PPG, 1.7 APG, 2.4 RPG
Season Highlight: March 10 vs. his former team, the Utah Jazz, Kyle Korver
played 39 minutes and scored a season high 26 points including 6 three
pointers. He also pulled down 7 rebounds, dished 6 assists and got a block.
It was the ultimate bounce-back game two nights after shooting a dismal 3-10
in a loss to Orlando.
Season Lowlight: March 8 vs. Orlando, Kyle Korver shot 1-7 from behind the
arc. 6 of those shots came at crucial times in the fourth quarter. With 2:11
remaining and the Bulls up 91-89 missed a wide open corner 3-pointer which
could have been the momentum swinger and gave the team a 5 point advantage.
It was an uncharacteristic performance from a guy who thrives off of big
moments and big shots. The Bulls went on to lose 99-94, ending an 8-game
winning streak.
Final Judgement: Kyle Korver improved in his second year with the Bulls in
every category, especially defense. No longer was he a defensive liability
for Tom Thibodeau as Korver gave special attention to his defensive
preparation for every game and refined his most criticized skill. His
basketball IQ was better this season in that he was more patient with his
game and was able to recognize the opponents defensive scheme on himself and
many times find an open teammate in return. He had his second best career
shooting percentage from 3-point land at 44% and was trusted to be a closer
for the Bulls in the 4th quarter, even garnering those minutes from this year
’s new starting SG, Rip Hamilton.
What’s Next: The Bulls hold an option on Kyle Korver’s $5 million
dollar/year contract. With Derrick Rose and Luol Deng missing a chunk of
next season, the Bulls may look to pick up an additional scorer and shot
creator, thus ending Kyle’s 2 year tenure in Chicago. However, pure 3-point
shooters are hard to come by in this league, so they will take that into
account when deciding Kyle Korver’s 2012-2013 season, but only time will
tell.
Also worth noting that while many will criticize his playoff
performance vs. Philadelphia, they likely fail to take into account his 11
points in Game 1 that came easily to him because of the simple fact that
Derrick Rose was on the floor. Evidently, Rose assisted on three of Korver’s
5 shots. Korver is able to get free with Rose demanding the attention of
every player on the opposing team, therefore his value is incredibly higher
with a healthy Derrick Rose.

Chicago Bulls Final Season Grades: Omer Asik
http://ppt.cc/qCBA
Grade: C-
Season Averages: 3.1 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 1.0 BLKPG
Season Highlight: If you’re simply looking at stats, Omer Asik tallied two
15 rebound games against the lowly Bobcats. But, if you look outside the box
score, Asik had his best game April 12 against the Miami Heat. His block on
D.Wade with 4:20 left in OT with the Bulls up 86-84 led to a and-1 fast break
dunk for Taj Gibson and put the momentum on the Bulls back for the remainder
of the game as they went on a 10-2 run and got the win 96-86. Asik had 8
rebounds, 2 big blocks, and played outstanding defense.
Season Lowlight: He shot 45.6% from the free throw line this season, that
number got put on blast when he missed both free throws in Game 6 vs. the
Philadelphia 76ers in the first round which ended up costing the Bulls the
game and their season. He played a spectacular 38 minutes and 53 seconds,
but that all got erased when he stepped away from the line.
Final Judgement: Asik has made a name for himself on the defensive end.
Himself and Taj Gibson are one of the/if not the best front court back-up
duo in the NBA. Asik absolutely needs to work on his free throws this summer
and get a solid routine going – his numbers went down from 50% to 45% in one
season and then further digressed as he shot 35% in the playoffs. Omer will
also most likely work on his hands and catching the basketball. How many
times did he fumble the ball this year? Too many to count. I heard he was
working with a tennis ball machine in the off days during the playoffs,
sounds like a good summer plan as well.
What’s Next: Omer Asik is a restricted free agent – what teams offer him,
the Bulls can match – which they are planning to do. His qualifying offer
for 2012-2013 is $2.4 million, but that will likely rise to the mid-level
exception of $5 million that the Bulls will match. There are loopholes that
teams can offer more, but will likely not as Asik has not developed as an
offensive threat…yet. You can read more about the technicalities of his RFA
status

Chicago Bulls Final Season Grades: John Lucas
More Sharing ServicesShare|Share on facebookShare on friendsterShare on
favoritesShare on google
Grade: B+
Season Averages: 7.5 PPG, 2.2 APG, 1.6 RPG
Season Highlight: The game that stands out the most to me is John Lucas’
coming out party January 11th vs. the Washington Wizards. Both Derrick Rose
(turf toe) and C.J. Watson (elbow) were inactive and John Lucas had a career
night. When Tom Thibodeau was asked prior to the game who John Lucas’
backup would be with his starter and backup hindered with injury, Thibs
answered “Lucas”. And, he wasn’t kidding, JL3 played a career high 46
minutes and posted 25 points, 8 assists and 8 rebounds. This game provided a
blueprint for the remainder of the season; whenever Lucas was needed, he
delivered. Fast forward to March 14th when the Bulls squared off against the
Miami Heat without Derrick Rose (groin). John Lucas exploded off the bench
for 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting leading to Bulls to a commendable win.
Season Lowlight: On April 16th, John shot 1-6 for 2 points and 2 turnovers
in the most disappointing loss of the Chicago Bulls season vs. the same team
he burst onto the scene against, the Washington Wizards.
Final Judgement: In many ways, John Lucas saved the Bulls this season.
Without a point guard, you don’t have a team and with so many injuries to
Derrick Rose and C.J. Watson, John Lucas became the unlikely hero and
remained ready all season long.
Lucas played more minutes this season, 820, than his entire career combined,
500. Lucas is a winner, some are born with
it and some aren’t, Lucas was. If you were to tell me on Christmas Day 2011
that John Lucas would have the season he did this year, I’d laugh in your
face – he got his chance and he ran with it.
Many criticize John for dribbling too much and wasting shot clock time which in return set his team
up for a bad/forced shot. While this may be true in some cases, nobody can
take away what he did for the Chicago Bulls this year. At the most important
position on the court, he did what few third stringers could as the Bulls
claimed the best record in the NBA for the second consecutive year with
Derrick Rose and C.J. Watson missing a combined 44 games.
What’s Next: John Lucas needs to work on his pick and roll and court vision
and as a point guard his assist numbers have to improve. Lucas will be an
unrestricted free agent this summer. With his salary at $915,852, it is
almost certain John will be offered a more lucrative deal and the Bulls
simply can’t afford offer more or even match. If he indeed does leave
Chicago, his spirit and competitiveness will be surely missed.

Chicago Bulls Final Season Grades: Brian Scalabrine
http://ppt.cc/FRTX
More Sharing ServicesShare|Share on facebookShare on friendsterShare on
favoritesShare on google
Grade: B -
Season Averages: 1.1 PPG
Season Highlight: The White Mamba played a season high 23 minutes in the
110-95 win over the New Jersey Nets on January 23. He picked up significant
minutes for the injured Luol Deng. The fan favorite had 5 points, 4 assists
and 3 rebounds including a crowd pleasing reverse-layup up and around Kris
Humphries.
Season Lowlight: Two nights later, Thibodeau went to Scalabrine again as he
picked up 10 minutes against the Pacers. With 27 seconds to go in
regulation, Bulls down by 2, Rose drove through traffic and kicked it out to
a wide open Scalabrine in the corner for the three. The Bulls lost the game
95-90 and Scal’s minutes quickly diminished.
Final Judgement: Brian Scalabrine is a fan favorite throughout the entire
league, he is the human victory cigar. When you hear the “Scalabrine”
chants, which take place in every arena, you know you’re team is either up
by 15 or down by 15. All joking aside, Scalabrine has a high basketball IQ
and though he doesn’t see much, if any, time on the court, he acts as a “
player coach” to this youngish Bulls team. He’s got championship
experience playing with the Boston Celtics and is the first one jumping up
with enthusiasm to cheer on his teammates.
What’s Next: Being a fan favorite, and a very intelligent player, Brian has
a bright future ahead of him in the broadcasting world, maybe even coaching.
He is an unrestricted FA this summer and whether he decides to come back or
retire we do not know. He did mention in the final game of the season after
he had hit a jumper: “I don’t know if that was my last shot,” Scalabrine
said with a smile. “But it was the same spot (on the floor) where MJ hit his
last shot.” Hopefully, we can keep the chants going another year.

Chicago Bulls Final Season Grades: Jimmy Butler
http://ppt.cc/YH0X
Grade: B
Season Averages: 2.6 PPG, 1.3 RPG
Season Highlight: February 2nd, Luol Deng was forced to sit out with his
injured wrist. The rookie got big time minutes on one of the biggest stages
in the NBA – Madison Square Garden. He came up huge for the Bulls, and it
was his stellar defense and hustle that earned praise from his teammates. He
held Carmelo Anthony to 4 points in the fourth quarter on 1-of-6 shooting and
hit a jumper to put the Bulls up 5 with a minute to go. The Bulls went on to
win 105-102.
Season Lowlight: Unfortunately, we just didn’t see enough of Jimmy Butler.
Season Critique: Butler had a solid rookie season as a limited role player
for the Bulls.
With Luol Deng, Ronnie Brewer and Kyle Korver already using up a chunk
of the minutes, Butler did not see much action when all three of
those guys were healthy. His rookie season will be remembered for his
defensive presence and not showing an ounce of fear when given the superstar
assignment.
What’s Next:
Butler should get a chance to step up and play in the Bulls
rotation next season. He came into the league wanting to make a name for
himself on the defensive end.
He’s shown he can do that when given the opportunity – now he needs
to work for a consistent jumpshot – which he plans to do this off-season:
”Shot after shot after shot. Jump shot,
attacking the rim, a little bit of everything. I want to be really good in
this game, I want to play for a long time. I know I have to be at the tip
top of my game in every single way.” Who knows what is going to happen with
Brewer and Korver as the team holds options on their contracts. But, with
Deng likely to miss a considerable amount of time (if he chooses to get
surgery to repair his torn ligaments), Butler will have the chance to show
what he can really bring to this team on a consistent basis next season. I
think Bulls fans will be pleasantly surprised.
