In 2002, STATS, Inc. also added pitch type, velocity and location (TVL) to its MLB data collection. 在early 1980, MLB的比賽紀錄還沒有提供投手在比賽的總用球數 Stats Inc.開始紀錄the pitch count at the end of at bats, pitch types and locations, the direction and the distance of batted balls. 並將field劃分成26個區域來紀錄野手接到球的位置但是MLB球隊的人是怎麼看這些統計數據呢? 後來他們把統計出來的資料告訴White Sox GM,"Hey! Frank Thomas 守一壘時的打擊比當DH時好70 points"(<-應該就是0.07吧?) 不過沒有人在乎當Astros 主場Atrodome改建, 打算要把fences往前移時, Astro's GM, Al Rosen,問Stats Inc.在more hitter-friendly球場對他們球隊的影響是好是壞 Stats Inc. showed the relative propensity of the Astros versus their opponents to hit long pop flies並告訴Rosen "Sorry, if you do that, you lose more games".....
