04/22/2004 2:44 PM ET Notes: Morris back in Minnesota Higginson still hurting; Guillen impresses with "D" By Patrick Donnelly / Special to MLB.com MINNEAPOLIS -- Jack Morris pitched in Detroit for 14 years, and spent one memo rable season as a member of the Twins. Yet the St. Paul native considers Minne sota his home, and this year he's returned to his roots. After working for UPN-50 as a color commentator on Tigers telecasts last year, Morris has been hired by WCCO-AM, the flagship station of the Twins' radio ne twork, to fill a variety of on-air roles. "Radio is perfect for me," Morris joked. "I've got the beautiful face for it." Morris will sub for Dan Gladden, another former Tiger and his 1991 World Serie s championship teammate in Minnesota, as the color commentator for 20 Twins ga mes this year. He's also co-hosting two weekend baseball shows on WCCO. The highlight for Morris is that he's only making one road trip, leaving the f requent flier miles to Gladden. "It's all about the travel for me," Morris said. "This is home. I don't have t o go to the airport 40 times a year." It's been a tough series for Morris, who has divided loyalties between the fra nchise that he carried for most of his career, and the team that he followed a s a kid and got him his first World Series ring. "The good news is, I should know all the guys on the field this week," he said . "It's not like I'm doing a Tampa Bay game or something. But the bad news is I don't want to see either of these teams lose." The Tigers have obviously made a number of changes since Morris last saw them in 2003, but he sees much of Detroit's success this year coming from one key m ove. "I just know how much a good catcher can mean to a young staff -- it's huge." The irony of Morris finding a job in the media is not lost on his former teamm ates, who grew accustomed to his occasional battles with the press during his playing days. Tigers manager Alan Trammell let out a cackle when he saw Morris' media pass b efore Wednesday's game. "You ought to frame that," he laughed. Morris looked sheepishly at the media pass and said, "It's an oxymoron, isn't it?" -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.121.137.253
