[情報] Mariners sail into Detroit
Seattle (7-15) at Detroit (12-10), 7:05 p.m. ET
By Jason Beck / MLB.com
DETROIT -- Two teams, one trade, two unexpected results.
When the Mariners signed Rich Aurilia last January, they made it a necessity t
o deal their former shortstop Carlos Guillen first. Thus, the Tigers were able
to grab a productive veteran shortstop for the price of Ramon Santiago and a
lower-level Class A prospect.
The M's felt like they had upgraded at short to make another run at the AL Wes
t. The Tigers knew they had upgraded at short to make a run at respectability.
So far, the Tigers look like they have a steal.
Guillen's former club heads into the Motor City to start a three-game series F
riday night with the standings flipped. While Seattle's 7-15 record ranks in t
he AL cellar, Detroit has its first winning April since 1993 -- in no small pa
rt thanks to Guillen.
Short-term, Guillen has reached base seven times in his last two starts -- two
hits and an RBI Thursday afternoon against Anaheim, two hits and three walks
Wednesday night versus the Angels. His 18 runs scored ranks second on the club
, while he's one of five different Tigers with a .300 average or better.
He'll face an old club trying to continue its old ways against the Tigers. The
Mariners took eight of nine from Detroit last season, including a three-game
sweep at Comerica Park that May. They won three straight at Safeco Field in Ju
ly by a combined margin of 28-8.
But these are different Tigers, thanks in a major way to what had been conside
red a minor January trade.
