The Tigers wrapped up their winter season with a few players reaching the final s of their leagues, and another player switching not only leagues, but countrie s. Licey's trip to the Dominican League finals meant an extended season for at lea st one Tigers player, but the most prominent Detroiter in winter ball had since wrapped up. First baseman Carlos Pena, who had played for Licey since early in the season, finished up during round-robin semifinal play, as scheduled, to rest up for Spr ing Training. The wear and tear of winter ball showed in his later statistics: He went 1-for-22 in the semifinals with a home run, two RBIs, seven walks and e ight walks. With Pena out, another Tiger ended up putting on a hitting show in the Dominica n, this time against Licey. Alexis Gomez, whose rough start to the winter was compounded earlier this month when he was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo, enjoyed a pair of multihit games in the finals for Aguilas. He went 2-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout in Game 1, a 14-4 Aguilas rout, followed by another 2-for-4 performance with a sacrifice fly in Game 4. With Pena out, the only Tiger left on Licey's roster was reliever Roberto Novoa . A dominant reliever at Double-A Erie last year, Novoa remains inconsistent ag ainst big league hitting. After holding opponents to a run on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings in the semifinals, Novoa yielded a run on three hits in an inning of work in Licey's Game 4 loss in the finals. He struck out two batters. The Dominican League final series entered Friday tied at two games apiece. Like Gomez, Byron Gettis will come to Tigers camp hoping to earn a reserve spot in Detroit's outfield. Unlike Gomez, Gettis changed leagues in hopes of making one more impression. After batting .347 for Mayaguez in the Puerto Rican Leagu e, Gettis jumped over to Estrellas in the Dominican for postseason play. The le ague change proved an adjustment, as Gettis struggled to a 3-for-24 performance with a solo homer, one walk and six strikeouts. Down in Venezuela, Omar Infante's Oriente Caribes finished one game out of qual ifying for that league's finals. The young shortstop finished round-robin semif inal play with a 7-for-43 performance over 10 games. He walked twice and struck out 11 times. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.230.14.175
