[情報] Tigers place Jones back on 15-day DL
DETROIT -- The Tigers placed reliever Todd Jones back on the disabled list
with a sore right shoulder Sunday morning, two days after he returned from
the DL.
Jones, Detroit's closer for much of the last three seasons until last month,
missed two weeks with inflammation in his right shoulder before he was
activated on Friday. Manager Jim Leyland hoped to give him an easy inning
back before working him into more close and late-game situations, but a
ninth-inning appearance Friday turned into a 38-pitch outing that included
two fielding errors behind him, three walks by Jones and five unearned runs.
That workload alone left Jones unavailable for Saturday's game, but there was
no immediate sign of any problems. Now, Jones will be out until at least the
end of August, leaving Fernando Rodney and Kyle Farnsworth as Detroit's
primary late-inning relievers.
To fill Jones' spot on the 25-man roster, the Tigers purchased the contract
of right-hander Gary Glover, who had joined Triple-A Toledo less than two
weeks ago. Signed on August 9, Glover made three appearances out of the Mud
Hens bullpen, tossing four scoreless innings with three hits and four
strikeouts. He pitched 34 innings over 29 appearances for Tampa Bay this
season, posting a 5.82 ERA before the Rays designated him for assignment on
July 28.
