Jacob Turner, RHP 2010 Rank: 42 Drafted: 2009, 1st (9) ETA in Majors: 2012 Statistically speaking: Turner made 13 starts with Class A Advanced Lakeland in the Florida State League. He gave up zero earned runs in six of them. Over his last five starts, spanning 25 1/3 innings, he yielded just one earned run on 13 hits and four walks while striking out 26. Take out two rough starts in early July in which he gave up 11 of his 20 earned runs and Turner had a 1.52 ERA and a .187 batting average against. Scouting report: Coming out of the Draft, he had more of a reputation as a thrower, a guy with a plus fastball who needed to work on everything else. The fastball is still his best pitch, but the secondary stuff -- his curve and changeup -- have come a long way. He's got a pretty good feel for pitching and has the mound presence of a future frontline starter. He can still improve his command, but that's typical for young pitchers, and that should get better with time. Upside potential: A fast-tracking young arm who eventually tops the rotation in Detroit.
