Veras交易正式完成後 PaulWez給的評價 (看標題應該就很明顯了) On Friday, the Tigers completed the Jose Veras trade by announcing the player to be named later, sending young right-hander David Paulino to the Astros. Paulino goes to the Astros, along with Danry Vasquez, who was named in the deal at the time of the trade. Veras has been solid for the Tigers, serving as the team's setup man, and posting a 2.70 ERA in 19 appearances, including 12 strikeouts and 7 walks. At this point, it's safe to assume that the Tigers will plan to exercise their option on Veras for 2014, giving the Tigers 1.5 years of a solid late inning reliever (hopefully, anyway). In exchange, many fans were already aware of the skill of Vasquez, a 7-figure bonus baby out of Venezuela, with a very smooth swing, but still a few years away from being able to contribute at the big league level. The inclusion of Paulino in the deal isn't shocking, but was a bit surprising, and it's certainly a loss to the Tigers organization. While some may write off the youngster given his relative youth and inexperience, in addition to undergoing Tommy John surgery, that doesn't tell the true story of the talent of Paulino. As TigsTown had mentioned multiple times during the season, Paulino was incredibly impressive in his few GCL starts this season, with scouts flocking to watch him throw, sitting 94 MPH and topping out at 96. To try and put a relative value on Paulino's ability, even with the surgery, he likely would have checked in somewhere in the 20's in TigsTown's Top 50 prospect rankings this offseason. Acquiring a reliable bullpen arm was obviously a necessity for the Tigers for their stretch run this season. But the Tigers essentially gave up a top 10 and a top 20 prospect for 1.5 years of a middle reliever.
