INTERVIEW WITH IRURETA: "THERE'S NO CRISIS"
He was criticised by the fans last Thursday, when Depor was eliminated from
Copa at Riazor. He sent Luque to the bench and made Tristan play. Yet, the
coach and Tristan had an argument minutes before the player went on. Now the
coach defends his decisions, and assures that there is not a "crisis" or
anything like that, despite complaints from a number of players.
上週，Irureta遭受到球迷們強烈的質疑，在主場失利，國王盃出局，以及球員陣容的調派
，都成為媒體和球迷們攻擊的目標。另外他和球員的關係也成為焦點。Irureta和Tristan
在比賽前是否有激烈的爭執，或者是為什麼國王盃比賽當天Irureta會把Luque放在替補席
而讓Tristan上場?都是現在人們想要知道的問題。
"Well, we scored five goals in Vigo, and then one at home in two games in a
row. I mean, we've scored seven goals in four games. I don't know how many
teams have done that", Irureta says.
Irureta﹔well...我們在四場比賽中進了七個球，試問有幾支球隊可以做到這樣的境界?
Q. You have to admit that the Vigo game was not normal.
A. So, it's not normal either when we score only one goal at home. You can't
judge a team based on one or two games.
Q:你不認為對Celta Vigo那場比賽不能以常理判斷嗎?
(拉科再那一場進了五球以五比零狂勝)
A:喔，那我們這兩場在主場的比賽也不能以常理來判斷不是嗎?大家不能單就一兩場比賽
的結果來斷定球隊的功過是非吧
Q. But it seems as if the team was a bit more confused than ever.
A. No. We're as we were other years. But this is a very disputed Liga, so lets
see if we can focus on it now.
Q:但是球隊現在似乎面臨了以往未曾遇到的瓶頸?
A:不。這就是拉科，我們跟以前一樣，球隊難免會有起伏，而我們現在要做的就是想辦法
突破而專心在聯賽上。
Q. Depor do not score easy, as they used to.
A. Please check last year's figures and we'll see if there are more or less
goals. Last year Makaay was sensational, and this year he's not here, so this
is a different situation. What matters here is the team. Indeed, last season
Makaay's Depor scored five goals less than this season at this stage.

Q. Yes, you are right, but we cannot forget that the team is now relying on
points achieved in the beginning of the Liga. Then, Pandiani scored in every
game. How many goals have Pandiani and Tristan scored since the eight game?
A. You want to trick me.
Q. Well, it is a fact.
A. I don't see it that way. There're moments. But it's evident that when you
score more than thirty goals you don't do that just because you get lucky;
there's something else there.
Q. Do you believe that the team is playing well?
A. Generally speaking, the team is playing well. I'm not so sure that Real
Madrid or Valencia play better than us.
Q. Would you forgive to any other player what you forgive to Tristan?
A. Nothing happened between us.

Q. And what about the argument you had?
A. It's not really a big deal. I can talk or argue loud, and that doesn't
necessarily mean that there's something really serious going on.
Q. But you always say that you are friend with Tristan, and sometimes things
seem different...
A. Friends, well, we don't go out together, but we have a good relationship.

Q. You have always showed faith in Tristan.
A. I made him play against Atletico and he scored. It's important to have a
player like him. He's good for the team.
Q. And what about Luque? Could you explain his situation?
A. Me? That's pretty complex.
Q. The fans criticised his substitution.
A. It's not such a mystery. He had played good, but he was being a bit
irregular, so I sent him to the bench. Tristan went in and scored, and that
gave us hope. I tried to take advantage of Munitis' work by putting two
strikers in front and Sergio on the right.
Q. Why not Luque as a striker?
A. I have other strikers. If Luque plays in front, what do I do? Do I send
the other striker to the bench? And what about the left wing? Fran or Amavisca
can play there. Fran is ok when I want to control the pace of the game, but if
Luque is the striker the left wing doesn't have punch anymore. Luque's speed
gives problems to the rival, and that's something no other player can do. It's
easy to talk, but to re-structure a team is something that has to be done very
carefully.
Q. Luque has been superb recently.
A. Yes, he's very regular in his performance. He can still do it better. He's
doing well on the wing and I think there's no need to put him in front, in the
attacking line.
Q. In all honesty, are not you worried?
A. That's a false debate. Everybody says we're playing badly but we have lots
of points and we're up there. Valencia is first, Real Madrid second and we're
third, so this means that we're playing as the third best team in the
championship.
Q. Why do many argue that the team is not performing good?
A. I don't know. I'd like to know that myself. Maybe it's because the media
gives us more credit that we actually have. It all comes to the level of
demand we put on ourselves.
Q. Therefore, there will be no changes...
A. Many teams, some of them in the Champions League, envy our situation. But
I'm always flexible and I'm ready to change things if I believe that it's in
the best interest of the team.
