MORE DETAILS ABOUT RUBEN (LAS PALMAS) When Deportivo sold defender Gabriel Schurrer to Las Palmas in the summer of 2001, the island club could not pay the €3,6 million immediately. Lendoiro struck a deal with Las Palmas as he didn't bother them because of the financial troubles the club was in. Now Deportivo get their reward, as the Galician team is the first and main candidate for players from the island. Manuel Pablo and 'Turu' Flores already came from Las Palmas in the summer of 1998, and now striker Changui plays there on loan. Added to this was the news that young striker Ruben (21-years old) will move to Deportivo. Ruben is of the same generation as Guayre (Villarreal), Jorge (Atletico de Madrid) and Angel (Celta). Ruben will sign for Deportivo but will remain at the island until the summer of 2005. If this will become true is in doubt though as Ruben wants to play at Deportivo from this summer one. Deportivo will pay €600.000 to Las Palmas and will forget about the debt for Schurrer. Besides, Deportivo will get a preferential treatment concerning other players that might interest them. But his coach, Galician David Vidal, isn’t so fond of letting go one of his best players for the mentioned amount. “He’s a great player and I am delighted that Deportivo have shown an interest. But in my opinion he’s worth more than the debt we have for Schurrer. That’s why he could stay here.
