REVIEW: ATLETICO de MADRID vs DEPOR 0-0
Deportivo lost ground on the leaders Real Madrid as they are held
to a goalless draw at Atletico Madrid. This means Madrid has increased
the gap with Deportivo to six points. Also good news arrived as the
single point Deportivo earned was enough to shorten the gap with second
placed Valencia, who lost in Mestalla against Barcelona (0-1). Barcelona’s
good run sees them getting closer to the top three teams in Spain.
Irureta opted for Romero in central defence instead of Cesar, who probably
was rested for the Champions League game against Juventus next week.
The coach also used his favourite tactics with two defensive midfielders
as Sergio played alongside Mauro Silva and Fran was left out of the
starting eleven.
First Half
The game starts defensively with both parties showing (too) much respect
for the opposite team. There are not many occasions as the battle is on
the midfield. De los Santos hard midfield work permits the locals to
dominate the match. A lot of Atletico’s play came from the right side
where Aguilera and Novo were very active. This resulted in several
dangerous moments in front of Molina’s goal. Nikolaidis and Arizmendi
had the best changes for Atletico , who had a bit more control in the
first half and Deportivo showed a lack of ambition.
Second half
Also the second half started with a domination of Atletico in the
first minutes. Depor had been pushed back by the locals and were not
able to get out of it. Irureta decided to enter Fran in the game on
behalf of Valeron, who could not show his skills this match. Aguilera
(Valeron怎麼了>< 是太累了嗎><)
again was the most offensive player together with Sergi on the other
flank. But the attacks of Atletico would also give Depor more space for
the counter-attacks. Luque had two dangerous attacks on the left but
both passes could not be finished by Tristan, who also had failed to
score in an empty goal from a Victor pass. In the end Depor were more
dominating but also Atletico had a good opportunity as Molina stopped
Nikolaidis from scoring with a good save.
