MAURO SILVA: "THE BEST THING IS TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE FUTURE"
Mauro Silva is a record player as on Sunday he reached playing 29,607
minutes in the Spanish Liga, a number that only three foreigners players
have done before: ex-Deportivo players Donato and Miroslav Djucic and
former Real Madrid star Hugo Sanchez. The Brazilian commented on the
current Liga and, with the title hopes complicated, he still is optimistic.
According to Mauro Silva the club should keep an eye to the future and
there’s no need to give up hopes until the end of the season.
Q: Sincerely... is the Liga lost?
A: We have hopes and we have to keep going in our way. Until the
mathematical chances disappear we must continue to fight for it.
Q: But you must confess that the chances are complicated.
A: We have to be realistic. Things are difficult, but what we can do?
Do we have to quit because it is difficult? Should we resign? The things
aren't like this. We have to keep working, we have to try it.
Q: Does the squad thinks it’s possible to reduce the gap of nine points
with Real Madrid?
A: That's a matter of opinions. We keep the idea that it’s difficult and
others could say that it’s impossible. The only thing that I can say is
that we will keep working and we will try to win all the matches that we can.
Q: And you must keep an eye on the teams that come behind you. They seem very
strong at this point.
A: No, No.... Our sight must always be on the teams in front of us. The
best thing to secure the Champions League is to catch Valencia and Real
Madrid. They are our main targets.
Q: How do you explain the bad performance in the first half of the match
against Barca?
A: It's difficult. They played at a great level and we gave a lot of
advantage to them. When we wanted to react it was already too late. To
overcome a difference of three goals against Barcelona is very difficult.
Q: Was the team of Rijkaard a surprise to you?
A: Barcelona isn't the team of the previous match we played against them.
They are in their best moment of the season and play in a very coordinated
