IRURETA COULD STAY FOR ANOTHER SEASON
Javier Irureta has been coach of Deportivo for six seasons now. In the
Liga he has led the club to finish 6th (1998/1999), 1st (1999/2000),
2nd (2000/2001), 2nd (2001/2002) and 3rd (2002/2003) and now the club will
not finish lower as the 4th place. Added to this stable Liga history is
the fact that in the past four seasons Deportivo have become a European
top club instead of a Spanish top club and that has made Irureta the most
successful coach of Deportivo in their history.
At the moment it looks like the Basque will coach start his seventh season
in August as he could sign a renewal of his contract in May. Irureta is
famous because of always talking about the deberes (the things that must
be achieved) before he wants to discuss a new contract. But with the
fourth place safe and with Deportivo among the final 8 clubs in Europe,
the season already has been very successful.
Irureta commented on the situation that should not worry about it as
everything will evolve within time and what we need now is to have rest.
It's not a good moment to talk about my future as the most important
things are the matches against Betis and Milan? Irureta explained that
so far he hasn't had contact with Miguel Santos, his agent, about a new
contract because don't want to spent a second on things that don't concern
the next two matches?
Galician midfielder Fran is convinced that it's the best thing for
Deportivo if Irureta stays for at least another season. He think that he
should stay. But the president is the one who knows best what's good for
Deportivo. Irureta has already shown many things here but the situation
not only is in the hands of our president. First we should fulfil the
deberes? Fran added that he hasn't given up the Champions League yet. 絶
or sure we will win the match against Milan, and sometimes we play very
spectacular matches. So, why not against Milan??
