PANDIANI IS IN GOOD SHAPE
After his comeback from Mallorca where he was on loan in the last year,
it was supposed that Walter Pandiani had a secure place in the bench of
Depor, in the beginning of the season he was waiting to replace Tristan
in any moment, now with only eight matches to play in La Liga and with
one more opportunity in Champions League the Uruguayan striker is the
main hope for Deportivo in the attack zone.
His good performance in the last games wasn't forgotten by the coach
Javier Irureta, he decided to use him in the starting line-up for the
game against Real Sociedad, it was a good choice, Pandiani scored the
first goal of the match and had a good impact in the rest of the game,
the Uruguayan knows about his good moment and is happy for it: "I fell
really good, I recovered all my strength after the injury that I had,
I am in a great shape at this moment".
Pandiani have now ten goals in La Liga and four in Champions League,
in fact he had scored five times in the last month including the last
two goals of Depor in the European competition. His goal against Real
Sociedad was crucial, it helped to achieve the win, according to him
the victory is very important for the future of the squad: "The result
is a great joy to us, we had chances to define the result early on the
match but, the goalkeeper of Real Sociedad had a good performance and
I miss some opportunities to increase the lead, the true is that this
three points are very important to us because it helps to recover the
moral after the defeat in Milan".
The striker knows that the chances of Depor in La Liga are small but he
is optimistic about it: "We must have hope, we can't close the door to
our possibilities, we have intact the chances to reach the title, there
is a lot of points waiting for us and we can't give anything as lost".
Now Pandiani is with the national team of Uruguay, he and Gustavo Munua
will play against Venezuela in the road to World Cup 2006, the striker
decided to stay with Depor this last Saturday and play the game in Anoeta
stadium because, he thought that those three points were important to
the team and he didn't wanted to lose his place at the squad. Both
players will return for the weekend game against Betis at the Riazor.
