[歐錦] Valeron訪問
On Saturday midfielder Juan Carlos Valeron of Deportivo played
this 39th match for Spain against little Andorra and he scored
the fourth goal in the 4-0 win. Despite the immense qualities
of the Canarian player he probably won’t start the first
EURO2004 match of Spain against Russia as national coach Inaki
Saez just will not doubt about using Raul. Meanwhile, Valeron
isn’t the player to enter into an argument about it and only
wants to achieve something important this tournament.
Q: Deportivo have four Spanish players present at EURO2004. Is
this the reward for the good season?
A: I think it is and I am satisfied being parting of the Spanish
team with them. We had a setback because of the injury of Michel
Salgado, which has affected us all some. But now Joan is there
and we should continue working and try to, with the help of all,
do something nice with this squad.
Q: Some people would like to see you playing together with
Fernando Torres and Raul.
A: This theme has been discussed in the press, like always, because
they are the ones talking about it. We’re all at very ease here and
the players on the pitch will try to do the best they can. Meanwhile,
the others will help them and to wait for their moment to give what
they can. Without any problem.
Q: But would it be risky playing with the three of you?
A: That’s a question for the national coach because he makes the team.
We as players will just try to do the best we can.
Q: Do you prefer starting a match or helping the team coming from the bench?
A: I adapt myself to whatever I have to do. What the coach decides to
do will help me better at certain moments than others. But the least I
can do is to try. Every of our players will give the best they can to
start the matches. There’s some good and healthy competition here and
that’s excellent.
Q: Does it help that Spain aren’t considered favourites for this tournament?
A: There’s always pressure. But what actually counts is what happens
on the pitch. We know that it’s difficult because there are other good
teams around. But at least we’ll try to win it.
Q: How about the reputation of Spain when it comes to tournaments?
A: Talking about the past doesn’t count. We have a lot of illusion
to change history and to win this tournament with Spain.
