LUQUE: "MY NEAR TARGET IS TO BE AT VILLALBA"
The rumours about a possible transfer of winger Albert Luque to
Barcelona is one of the main news topics of the recent weeks and
created the name of Mallorca striker Samuel Eto'o being linked to
Deportivo as one of his possible replacements. The only thing true
thing at the moment though is that Luque is enjoying his holiday
after his short participation in the Euro 2004 tournament and still
is a Deportivo player until 2010.

Q: Do you know anything about the interest of Barcelona in your services?
A: No. And the only thing that I have clear is that I must be at
Villalba on 16 July when the pre-season starts for me. We must be
prepared well in order to face the preliminary round of the Champions
League. I know nothing about other things.
Q: You must know something...
A: Barcelona showed some interest recently and I told them that the best
thing to do is to initiate a formal conversation with the management of
Deportivo. That's all that I can say because I simply don't know anything
else.
Q: Maybe it’s because you were out of Spain for a couple of weeks?
A: No, my father always tells me the news that’s published in the
Spanish papers. He keeps me very well informed about the novelties
of my case.
Q: Some sources are telling that there is a permanent contact
between Deportivo and Barcelona and that negotiations could be
increased in a very short period of time...
A: I don't have anything to comment on it. You must understand that
the player doesn't need to be conscious about the negotiations of
both clubs as the first step is to reach a agreement between them.
Then, if a deal is near, they will let me know and on that point I
will start the negotiations with the new club.
Q: You feel attracted towards Barcelona.
A: I have said in the past that Barca is the only club at which I
would love to play after Depor. But a deal must be satisfactory for
the club.
Q: Would you be sad if both clubs don't reach an agreement about your
transfer?
A: Of course not and I have made that clear from the beginning. If
Barcelona want me and they have a good proposition for Deportivo, I
will not have any problem with returning to my home town. Anything
that is a step forward in my career is good. But if this doesn't happen
I also will be very happy at La Coruna.
Q: Don't you worry about the possibility that at this moment they are
trying to decide your future?
A: No. Only If I were unhappy in La Coruna I would be worried about
it. But this is not the case and I will be very satisfied with any
result they get. Playing at Deportivo or Barcelona is a good thing
and I am easy about it.
Q: New signing Momo said, with a little humor, that the best scenario
for him is that you will be sold to Barcelona...
A: It's normal because it’s always better when you have less
competition for a place in the squad. Without me he will have
more chances of being a regular in the team. The truth is that
he is still young and he must learn that he will have time to
prove his value. To arrive at a new club is always very difficult
but you must maintain hope.
Q: You know that the first year is always difficult…
A: Yes, and in his case maybe more because he comes from a team
that last season played in the Segunda Division. So it’s even more
difficult to adapt to his new club and the city. He doesn't have
experience in the Primera Division and there are some things that
he doesn't know still. But I am pretty sure that he will be fine here.
Q: How about the Euro 2004 tournament?
A: As a team I don’t think we played as disastrous as people say.
But we failed against Greece although we were placed in a difficult
group. Look at were Portugal and Greece are now.
Q: Did you expect to play more?
A: After the good season I played at Deportivo I assumed I would
play more. But Vicente played a great match against Russia and it
was a normal thing that he continued. I only played against Portugal
at the right wing, not my normal position.

Q: How about the departure of Inaki Saez?
A: This surprised me because he told us that he would continue.
