PANDIANI BUYS A TRUCK
8th July 2004 -- Walter Pandiani decided to celebrate his excellent
season at Deportivo in a most unusual way: he bought a red Ferrari
truck, seven meters long and almost four meters high. After scoring
important goals in the Liga and the Champions League, the Uruguayan
striker finally fulfilled his dream of owning a truck.
Pandiani didn't talk about his future at Deportivo, where his contract
will run out in three years. He only talked about his red monster that
cost him 84.000 euros, the equivalent of 14 milion pesetas. "It was my
dream ever since I was a child, and finally I have fulfilled it". In
addition to the colour, he also requested a custom decoration, affecting
the plates, a rifle on the windshield and seven (his shirt number at
Deportivo) Uruguayan flags on the sides and in all corners of the truck.
"Now I will need some time to get used to it, but I hope I will be
ready in time for school", Pandiani asserted. "You want to go to school
with it ? You could probably give all the children a ride with it.",
the reporters asked. "I have three boys and they would like me to bring
them to school with the truck sometimes", he explained. Another use was
suggested for the truck, to lead the parade in case Deportivo win the
title, saving them the trouble to rent a convertible bus. "Of course,
if we can celebrate a title, we can use the bus", Pandiani agreed. "I
just want to finish my vacation now, to spend some days with my family
and friends and to enjoy the truck", he added.
(算你狠...)
But there is also a problem concerning the truck, namely to find a
parking place for it, because it cannot fit in the house. Finally, it
was left outside, next to a Porsche and a Mercedes, the cars used to
get to the car dealer in order to pick up the truck. Hours before, a
visitor was very surprised at the sight of the truck. "The owner must
be a real Deportivo fan", he said, insisting to find out who the
owner was.

Meanwhile, Uruguay started the qualifying campaign for the World Cup,
but Pandiani has declined his call-up. He considers his refusal to
participate a necessity, and not a luxury."I was very tired after my
season at Mallorca. I had no vacation afterwards, so the last season
was very hard for me. I had to play even though I was unfit sometimes,
and I would like the next season to be different", the striker
justified his decision. "I would like to play for Uruguay, but it is
Deportivo who pay the bills, so I must perform as well as I can for
the team. The Champions League and the Liga are demanding competitions,
and I must be able to perform at the highest level".
(猛男就是猛男...)
During his short vacation, Pandiani spent most of his time with his
family in Uruguay, and visiting some friends. He also watched the
European Cup in Portugal, forming some opinions: "I was very sorry
for Spain, but there were many errors made, not just on the pitch".
He also talked about the Greek surprise: "I never expected this
outcome, but I am happy that an outsider won this year. Everybody
was criticising them for their slow, and unspectacular game but
they showed to be a very compact team, defending very well and
winning in the end". Pandiani also remembered his scoring luck with
Greek teams in the Champions League. Facing the next season, Walter
mentioned Barcelona: "They made some important transfers and they
now have an impressive team, which is good for Spanish football".
