THREE 'FABRIL' PLAYERS FOR DEPOR
Deportivo is participating today in a friendly mini-tournament
against AEK Athens and Atletico de Madrid in the Spanish capital.
Coach Irureta has called three young players from Depor's "B"
squad ('Fabril') as a means to compensate for Depor's short squad.
Four players from Fabril were training with the "A" squad yesterday.
Namely these are: Dani Cancela (left fullback), Pita (midfielder),
Xisco (striker), and David Vidal (left midfielder). The coach
finally decided on the first three to make the trip to Madrid.

The 'Hellboy-Columbia Trophy' - named after Atletico de Madrid's
sponsor - will consist on two consecutive forty-five minute games.
Deportivo will first face AEK Athens and then the winner of this
match will meet Atletico in the so-called 'final'.

The three Galician youngsters will have their chance to show their
skills, and they will certainly give a rest to other players. As
Luque puts it: "This is just a mere friendly tournament after all.
We shouldn't play hard and we must avoid injuries at all cost,
because the real thing comes after this. We're a short squad and
we better don't get hurt".
Captain Fran is also going to Madrid, but only to pay a visit to
the doctor. Keeper Molina and midfielder Mauro Silva will stay in
A Coruna, recovering from their physical problems. International
players Scaloni, Andrade, Victor, Romero and Valeron will not be
in Madrid either.
Yet, striker Diego Tristan is expected to make a comeback after a
month out of the team. He seems to be fully recovered from his
injury and the player feels confident about this new season.
Tristan wants to make an impact and demonstrate he still is a
top-class striker, after he admitted he was not really fit last
year.
