Bilbao coach Valverde favourite for Depor job

Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde is the new favourite to succeed Javier
Irureta at Deportivo La Coruna next season.
Valverde is leaving Bilbao next month and has a verbal agreement with
Osasuna. But that can be easily broken, particularly with Javier Aguirre
indicating he will stay another season.
Meanwhile, Valverde's representatives have already held talks with Depor
president Augusto Caesar Lendoiro and discussions are so well down the track
that prospective signings for the summer market have been raised.
Valverde has made Lendoiro aware that he believes Depor need a winger and a
centre-forward. Ismail Urzaiz's name was mentioned, but the Spaniard has
renewed his contract with Bilbao in recent weeks.
Lendoiro has pencilled Valverde at the top of a new, three-man shortlist of
names to replace Irureta. Portuguese Artur Jorge and Argentine Carlos Bianchi
are also under consideration by Lendoiro.
