Lendoiro is determined to change the face of the team for the new season and
it seems that some of these changes might happen sooner than expected.
Tomasson and Dhorasoo could be loaned today from Milan, while Jorge Andrade
has been put on the market in a surprising and controversial move.
MILAN HAS ALL BUT AGREED
Lendoiro has been negotiating the loan deal of Jon Dahl Tomasson and Vikash
Dhorasoo for several weeks now, and the finalization draws near. Paulo Futre,
Milan's agent in Spain has been involved in the talks, and an agreement could
be made public today, when Lendoiro returns from Madrid.
The contract would have Deportivo pay for half of the players' salaries,
which is no small sum. Tomasson receives no less than 2.7 million euros net
for a season, while Dhorasoo's wage is 1 million euros. Both players have
already expressed their agreement in this matter, mostly because they are
only substitutes at Milan and have never really counted for Carlo Ancelotti.
Although negotiations and talks have been going on for some time, it is only
yesterday that the two parts met in Madrid. Given the good relationship
between the clubs, everything indicates that the deal was closed.
ANDRADE IS EXPENDABLE
The Portuguese defender has been one of the most successful transfers in the
near history of the club, but it looks like Lendoiro is now prepared to let
him go. His addition to the team has made Depor's defense impenetrable, but
Naybet's departure led to a shaky performance from Andrade and the rest of
the defense. It was only the addition of Coloccini that reestablished the
usual quality at Depor's back.
Still, Lendoiro didn't consider selling Andrade until Jorge Mendez presented
some tempting offers. Now the president of Deportivo has even talked to the
same Paulo Futre to find better offers for Andrade in Italy. It seems that he
has offers from English clubs (Newcastle and Chelsea) but expects to receive
even more money from Italian clubs. Andrade has made a good impression all
over Europe with Deportivo as well as with the Portuguese national team, and
his price is estimated around 20 million euros. Deportivo bought him with
much less, 9 million euros and the goalkeeper Nuno.
THE POLICY OF LENDOIRO
Lendoiro's transfer policy has been again in the spotlight. Depor's president
has very strong principles in this matter, he always tries to buy young,
promising players for cheap, loan more expensive ones or hire veterans on a
free tranfer. The examples ar there, more recent ones being Munitis (free
transfer) and the two youngsters Momo and Ruben.
It seems he will employ all these techniques in the reconstruction of the
team, but the signs are also saying something else. Tomasson and Dhorasoo are
both older players, and their price tags are also high. It is unlikely that
they will be part of the new generation. Andrade on the other hand would have
fit the profile, he is still young, has good skills and is loyal to
Deportivo.
The future plans of Lendoiro remain uncertain. It is clear that there is a
real shortage of funds, otherwise Andrade wouldn't be for sale. It's also
clear that loaning old players is just a temporary solution. Everything hints
at the fact that rebuilding the team will take some time, and that the fans
will have to be patient.
