CAPARROS: "WE NEED A NEW STRIKER"

A lot has been said about Deportivo in the past few days. Coach
Joaqui'n Caparro's spoke yesterday about some of these issues.
He admitted that he is enjoying his job in La Corun~a. The Sevillian
coach also expressed his opinion about the possible reinforcements
for the squad and the team’s participation in the Intertoto Cup.
Q: How are you after the qualification for the third round of the Intertoto
Cup?
A: I'm motivated. I am always optimistic and I always try to share these
feelings with the squad. We should have the temperament to add positive
things. I also notice the support coming from the president and his advisors.
I only hope that the fans will do the same during the regular season.
Q: Are you disappointed with the poor form shown in Podgorica?
A: It was an interesting match to start making conclusions from. At the end
we managed the situation and after we allowed the second goal we gave no
option to them.
Q: Is Depor’s current image the same as it was before you took command of
the squad?
A: The truth is that my first thought was that the club was surrounded by
many difficulties. I suppose that this group had less capacity, but the
reality is that I found a squad with a huge predisposition. That's helping us
in order to win some time and to adapt better.
Q: Did you talk about this subject with the players?
A: We always have a clear dialogue between us, that's fundamental and it will
let us reach the scenario that we want. They let me see that I was wrong
about them at the beginning. I see that they are united. The players are
making a big sacrifice and that's a very good thing.
Q: Curiously this squad was previously accused of lacking professionalism...
A: This is a competitive squad – in any other case they wouldn't hold the
level of exigency that we are demanding from them in the training sessions.
This group reached the sky in the past and we want to demonstrate that they
can do it once again.
Q: The fans support your work, you’ve won their confidence in only one
month. Do you see this?
A: I'm surprised at the love of the people. That helps a lot and I appreciate
the support.
Q: What's getting the attention is your level of optimism...
A: The optimistic view is an obligation of the coach. I want to demonstrate
that I really enjoy my work.
Q: Do you need more reinforcements?
A: We have to see things little by little. However, I believe that the best
reinforcement will be the recuperation of Diego Trista'n.
Q: A lot has been said about the incorporation of the Brazilian midfielder
Anderson...
A: He's a 22-year-old player with a big future, he is on our list of possible
reinforcements, but for now what we need is a new striker. We must be
conscious and understand that if we sign a new forward it must be according
to the economic situation of the club. If we don't get a new striker we’ll
still have a very competitive squad.
Q: What do you think about a possible confrontation with Newcastle, Lazio or
Marseille?
A: I only think of the rival this weekend, the rest is only lies. We are too
focused to be distracted by those names.
Q: Did you learn something from Irureta's era?
A: Sure. The culture of the current squad was created during his period with
the club.
