IRURETA:EXIT AGAINST ROSENBORG WON’T BE A D …

The matches against Rosenborg have been the target of Deportivo for weeks now.
And within two days there will be the “moment of truth” according to
Deportivo coach Javier Irureta. Nobody at the club wants to think of an exit on
Tuesday, although midfielder Jaime labelled the possibility as a “disaster”.
But Irureta didn’t want to go that far, and said that “indeed, the moment of
truth comes. But there are big clubs in this country, like Valencia and
Barcelona, who don’t even play pre-round matches. So an exit against Rosenborg
won’t be a disaster. A disaster would be not to participate now”.
Irureta continued by saying that “Deportivo are now at 70 or 80% of their
level. Only the final part is still missing. But tomorrow we can write history.
Why? Because this team could be for the first time among the eigth heads of
groups, alongside teams like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Manchester
United, Juventus and Internazionale. It would be a big success, because these
clubs have all been champions of Europa. For us it would be a nice prize for
the work of the past seasons”.
But the coach of Deportivo knows that “Rosenborg will try to score a goal
here, and this match will be one of the most difficult we will have. But I
don’t think were obsessed with it. We should be concentrated and responsible
at the situation. The teams from the North are very regular. But we’ll make
a great effort and I don’t think there’s too much pressure”. Irureta is
confident that slightly injured Diego Tristan can play against Rosenborg. “And
we need all the artillery we have”, he said.
