DiamondbacksQuestion-030606
C Damian Miller 1998-2002
One of the game's most consistent players, Miller would, year in and year
out, bat around .270 with a .340 OBP adn .400 slugging percentage.
1B Mark Grace 2001-2002
Erubiel Durazo would own this spot if he'd been given the job, but the
Diamondbacks do like their veterans . . . and you can't argue with winning
the World Series.
2B Jay Bell 1998-2002
Signed to provide veteran stability, and certainly did that, but also came
through with bizarre numbers in 1999: 38 home runs, 112 RBI, and 132 runs
scored.
SS Tony Womack 1999-2002
One of the fastest men in the game, led NL with 72 steals in 1999 and with
14 triples in 2000, then played brilliantly down the stretch in 2001.
3B Matt Williams 1998-2002
Like Bell, acquired before the franchise's first season to provide stability
and respectability, and even with the ups and downs, he delivered.
LF Luis Gonzalez 1999-2002
Pretty good player with Astros, Cubs, and Tigers became superstar after hooking
up with D-Backs when he was 31; rapped World Series-winning hit in 2001, of
course.
CF Steve Finley 1999-2002
Following a bad year with Padres, joined D-Backs and got his career going
again, swatting 69 homers and scoring 200 runs in his first two seasons.
RF Danny Bautista 2000-2002
Came in trade shortly after 28th birthday, and topped .300 in each of his
first two seasons; fine glove, and knocked in five runs in Game 6 of 2001
World Series.
SP1 Randy Johnson 1999-2002
After winning one Cy Young award in his first 11 seasons, joined D-Backs when
he was 35 and started winning Cy Youngs every year.
SP2 Curt Schilling 2000-2002
In 2001, he and Big Unit gave Arizona the best one-two combination that
anybody could remember, and the pair practically won the World Series all
by themselves.
SP3 Brian Anderson 1998-2002
The Diamondbacks' first pick in the expansion draft, and the club's best
pitcher in that first season, goig 12-13 with a 4.33 ERA for a team that
lost 97 games.
SP4 Omar Daal 1998-2000
Got off to a brutal start in 2000 before getting traded, but in '98 and '99 he
went 24-21 with 3.32 ERA, and tossed clubs's first shutout (7/30/98); fooled
'em with slow stuff.
RP Byung-Hyun Kim 1998-2002
As a submariner who actually throws hard, Kim is unique among his
contemporaries; prone to wildness and gopher balls, but phenomenal strikeout
rate heals all.
