http://tinyurl.com/qe73h D-Back Green in sight BY KEN DAVIDOFF STAFF WRITER August 15, 2006 If the Mets and Diamondbacks can come to an agreement on a Shawn Green trade, then Green would likely waive his no-trade clause to join the National League East leaders, according to a person familiar with the situation. Arizona and the Mets have been discussing a deal involving Green, 34, as the Mets are looking to upgrade their corner outfield spots. Because Green is owed $9.5 million next season, with a $2-million buyout for his 2008 option, money has dominated the talks; the Mets don't want to pay more than half of the $11.5 million owed to Green beginning next year. The arrival of young rightfielder Carlos Quentin has changed the dynamics for the D-Backs, making Green less relevant in Arizona. There is some internal debate as to whether the Mets need to acquire a corner outfielder at all, and especially at the cost of someone such as Green, who was batting .281 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs entering last night. The sentimental choice would be Preston Wilson -- stepson of Mookie -- who was designated for assignment by the Astros last week. Otherwise, the Mets will have to wait for Cliff Floyd to get healthy.
