Diamondbacks Announce Minor League Staffs

The Reno Aces (AAA) return one of their three staff members from last
season's Tucson Sidewinders club as Brett Butler will manage the first-year
team. Butler will enter his fifth season in the D-backs' organization and
third season as manager after managing Mobile (AA) in 2007 and Lancaster (A)
in 2006. Butler also managed the Mets' Gulf Coast League affiliate in 2004.
Mike Parrott returns as pitching coach for his eighth season with the
D-backs' AAA club and 13th season in the organization. Rick Burleson will
serve as hitting coach and will begin his second season in the D-backs
organization after spending the 2008 season with Visalia (A).
The Mobile BayBears (AA) will return their entire coaching staff from 2008 as
Hector De La Cruz will lead the club for the second straight season after
spending the previous three seasons with Visalia (A) and Missoula (A). Jeff
Pico will serve as pitching coach for his second straight season with Mobile
and will begin his seventh season in the D-backs' system. Turner Ward will
return as hitting coach for his second season in the D-backs' organization.
The Visalia Rawhide (A) will once again be led by Mike Bell, his second
season with the club and his third season managing in the D-backs'
organization. Pitching coach Wellington Cepeda returns to the club for the
second straight year and will begin his sixth season in the D-backs' system.
Hitting coach Alan Zinter moves up two classifications from Missoula (A)
where he had his first career coaching position last year.
The South Bend Silver Hawks (A) will see their entire coaching staff return
as manager Mark Haley will be at the helm for his fifth season. Pitching
coach Erik Sabel will begin his second season with South Bend, his fifth
season in the D-backs' organization. Hitting coach Francisco Morales will
also begin his second season with South Bend, his fifth in the D-backs'
system after also having coached at the D-backs academy in the Dominican
Republic.
The Yakima Bears (A) will be led by Bob Didier for the second straight
season, his fourth season the D-backs' system. Dan Carlson will serve as
pitching coach for the club for the second straight season and will enter his
eighth season in the D-backs' organization. Andy Abad will serve as hitting
coach, his first career coaching position.
The Missoula Osprey (A) will be led by Audo Vicente for the second straight
season and will enter his fifth season on staff in the D-backs' system. Steve
Merriman returns for his third season as pitching coach in the D-backs'
organization. Newcomer Jason Hardtke will serve as hitting coach for his
first professional coaching position.
Coordinators on the D-backs' player development staff for 2009 include: Jack
Howell (field), Mel Stottlemyre, Jr. (pitching), Dave Hansen (hitting), Tony
Perezchica (infield), Joel Youngblood (outfield/baserunning), Bill Plummer
(catching), Hatuey Mendoza (Latin liaison), P.J. Mainville (medical), Jimmy
Southard (assistant medical) and Brett McCabe (strength).
