He was having fun with it, but he wasn’t kidding. Baylor, the Diamondbacks hitting coach, is one of the all-time HBP leaders, and like all those guys who are/were consistently among the leaders in that category – Craig Biggio, Carlos Quentin, et al – Baylor understood how to get hit without getting hurt. “He was awesome at it,” Gibson said. “Sometimes, you’re down by two runs, you want to take it. Take it and not get hurt. The other thing is, if you take it wrong you get more injuries that way. “It’s one of the things I wish we were better at. It’s not for everybody, but it’s for somebody. Just to try to figure out ways to get back in ballgames and win. That’s how my little corrupt, stupid-(cuss) mind works. That’s winning baseball. We’re down by two, we need to get a guy on. I’m telling you, I played against Baylor.
