--RHP Charles Brewer, OF Adam Eaton, 2B David Nick, RHP Eric Smith, 3B Ryan Wheeler and RHP David Woodall were the six D-backs assigned to the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, a landing spot for top prospects. --RHP Trevor Bauer and RHP Jarrod Parker, No. 1 D-backs draft choices, are candidates to be recalled later in September, according to general manager Kevin Towers, who believes pennant race experience would benefit both young arms. Bauer and Parker are in starting rotation for Class AA Mobile, which has made the Southern League playoffs. --C Miguel Montero extended his hitting streak to a career-high 11 games with his RBI double in the first inning. Montero, who also singled in the third inning, leads major league catchers with 73 RBIs and 32 doubles. He has nine more RBI than Atlanta C Brian McCann, who is second among NL catchers in that category. --C Robby Hammock, who had not played in the major leagues since 2008, was purchased from Class AAA Reno Friday and joined the team as a third catcher, one of D-backs' priority positions in their first round of roster additions. "He had the most experience, and he's also very versatile," manager Kirk Gibson said. Hammock, 34, caught Randy Johnson's perfect game in 2004 in Atlanta. Hammock, who signed a minor league deal with the D-backs in the offseason, was hitting .257 in 120 plate appearances at Reno. --INF Geoff Blum struck out in a pinch-hit appearance Friday in his first game since suffering a fractured right pinkie while fielding a ground ball against Colorado on July 24. Blum, signed over the winter to a two-year free agent deal to add veteran versatility and a clubhouse presence, has played only eight games this season after missing the first three months because of a spring training knee injury.
