We’re only one month into the minor league season, but one of baseball’s
best pitching prospects is on the move, as the Diamondbacks have promoted
righthander Archie Bradley to Double-A Mobile.
Bradley, 20, entered the season as the No. 25 prospect in baseball and was
one of the most dominant pitchers in the minors in April. Pitching in the
high Class A California League, Bradley maintained a 1.26 ERA over five
starts with 43 strikeouts (tied for the minor league lead) and 10 walks in 28
2/3 innings.
Bradley has used a 92-98 mph fastball and a knockout curveball to strike out
37 percent of the batters he’s faced this year, and while his control still
needs to get better he’s shown signs of improvement there as well. It’s
unlikely that Bradley would be ready to contribute in Arizona this year, but
he could be in the mix for the major league rotation by 2014, with the
potential to become a frontline starter.
