6. Sergio Santos, Diamondbacks
Age: 20 Level: Double-A 2002 Ranking: NR
The Diamondbacks rushed Santos to high Class A Lancaster to start this season,
and then after promising, but unspectacular results, promoted him to Double-A
as a 20-year-old. He held his own in Lancaster, a hitter's park, but didn't
post the overwhelming numbers scouts expect of him. However, he has a good
swing, a good approach and power potential. The Diamondbacks certainly
challenged him by moving him so aggressively, and he's scheduled to play in
the Arizona Fall League, where he will be the league's youngest position
player. At 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, he might outgrow shortstop and move to third,
a corner outfield spot or even second base as one scouting director suggested.
