So this is me in the stretcher: Let me give everyone the real story for future experiences. I'm a fairly experience diver. I have been on at least 80 dives and 20 or so in 100ft or more. We were driving in pairs. I was in a group of three and we all stayed together. We had a dive master on board as well as a certified boat captain. We weren't a bunch of rookies on the boat being reckless. I descended to the bottom with my two other divers. When I got to the bottom I had a scratchy feeling in my throat. It wasn't painful or swelling just scratchy. I stayed down between 95 and 106 ft for 20 minutes. I never held my breathe out did anything different than I normally do. As I began to run low on air and saw the other drivers head to the rope, I went with them. I ascended at a normal rate but as I ascended my throat began to feel different. As i was doing my safety stop at 16 ft I stopped for 48 seconds but at this point I was starting to have a tough time breathing because my wetsuit was choking me, so I skipped the rest of my safety stop and went to the top. When I got to the surface the captain face looked like he saw a ghost. I wasn't in pain but could tell my throat was swollen some. They immediately but calmly for everyone in and decided to take me back. I didn't understand because I wasn't hurting and was breathing now that my suit was off. Everyone assumed I was stung by a lion fish. I didn't think so because I never felt it and last October I kicked one accidentally and it didn't feel anything like that. Captain and everyone told me to go lay down in the back and rest for the ride home. Well shortly after I had very sharp pains in my chest and I thought I was having a heart attack so I told the captain to book it and they called the coast guard. It took about an hr to get in and the ambulance was at the dock waiting. Upon arriving at the hospital, it was immediately determined it had nothing to do with a lion fish. I had punctured my lung at the bottom and the air traveled up into my throat while I was driving. As I began at ascend it expanded in my throat causing it to swell. It is called barotrauma. As I went and layed down in the back the air moved from my throat lower into my chest, around my heart and kidneys. At the hospital I was treated almost the same as having a collapsed lung. I had a tube in my side to help drain excess air and give high levels of O2 to help my tissue absorb the oxygen inside my body. I was released within 24 hrs and back to normal now. "Spontaneous pneumothorax secondary to perforation of a bleb due to increased pressure difference during diving (barotrauma). Subcutaneous emphysema from air tracking into tissues of neck from the chest cavity. Quite large as clinically visible to non-medics. Also large enough to expand neck circumference to point that wetsuit collar became noticeably tighter. Treatment: Oxygen to improve efficiency of remaining lung to compensate for loss of gas exchange surface in affected lung. Chest drain to drain pneumothorax to allow reexpansion of (partially) collapsed lung." perfect diagnosis with medical terms from comments! Thanks I haven't posted or said much because I wanted to check my dive computer before I said anything. If this ever happens in the future O2 tank definitely help absorbs the air. Nothing else really can be done. https://i.imgur.com/zYtKfk4.jpg
