Escobar's rehabilitation includes healthy shot from 51s star Chen

REVIEW-JOURNAL
Los Angeles Angels right-hander Kelvim Escobar is headed back to the major
leagues with a parting gift from one of the hottest hitters in Triple A.
Escobar's rehabilitation start for the Salt Lake Stingers on Tuesday at Cashman
Field was going smoothly until 51s star Chin-Feng Chen roughed him up for a 450
-foot home run in the third inning.
But Chen and Escobar were both upstaged by the Stingers' Luke Allen, whose
three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning powered Salt Lake to an 8-7
victory.
Allen, who played for Las Vegas in 2002, pulled a 3-2 pitch from Franquelis
Osoria over the right-field wall to cap a six-run inning.
"I want to win every game," 51s manager Jerry Royster said after his team's
four-game winning streak was stopped. "But this game was about how we hit
against a major league pitcher, and we got some whacks at Escobar, who was
pretty sharp."
Escobar, on the disabled list with a strained ligament in his right elbow,
pitched four innings and trailed 2-1 when he left the game.
"Actually, I think I felt too good," Escobar said. "I was throwing the ball a
little bit up. I wasn't really worried about making pitches and things like
that. I was letting the ball go and seeing how my arm was going to react, and
everything went good."
Escobar threw 74 pitches, 47 for strikes, and said he will start Sunday night
when the Angels host the Oakland Athletics.
After striking out the side in the first inning, Escobar got into a jam in the
second. He allowed an RBI double to the 51s' Mike Rose, but with the bases
loaded, Escobar struck out Henri Stanley and Jose Flores to end the inning.
Chen led off the third inning by crushing a 3-1 fastball that almost hit the
scoreboard 474 feet away in left field.
"He knew the fastball was coming and he hit it pretty good. I've got to give
credit to the guy," said Escobar, whose fastball routinely hit 95 mph.
Chen, hitting .395 through 11 games, is still waiting to get his first major
league hit with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but he continues to earn praise from
Royster.
"That was a major league at-bat, and as I've said before, Chen is pretty good
to go. I think he could be up there now," Royster said.
Chen added a two-run double in the eighth inning that put Las Vegas ahead 7-2,
a lead that reliever Tom Farmer took into the ninth.
Right-hander Pat Mahomes allowed two runs, one earned, in 6 2/3 innings for the
51s (6-5).
Escobar made 33 starts for the Angels last season and pitched better than his
11-12 record. He led the team in innings (208 1/3) and strikeouts (191) and
ranked 10th among American League starters in ERA (3.93).
‧ NOTE -- Dodgers general manager Paul DePodesta said closer Eric Gagne, on
the disabled list with a sore right elbow, might report to Las Vegas within two
weeks for rehabilitation work.
Escobar和LV51s教練Royster都對CCF稱讚有加呀.....
