[外電] Mota, Dodgers agree to terms
LOS ANGELES (AP)—Guillermo Mota and the Dodgers finalized a one-year, $2.35
million contract Wednesday to bring the reliever back to Los Angeles.
“Guillermo is a power arm that can stabilize the back of our bullpen,”general
manager Ned Colletti said.“He's had plenty of success in L.A. before and we
look forward to seeing that again.”
The 35-year-old right-hander went 5-6 with one save and a 4.11 ERA in 58 games
for Milwaukee last season, helping the Brewers win their first division
championship in 26 years.
Mota served a 50-game suspension for testing positive for a
performance-enhancing substance in 2007.
Mota began his big-league career in Montreal, appearing in 133 games for the
Expos from 1999-2001. He was traded to the Dodgers in March of 2002, and served
as one of closer Eric Gagne's primary setup men for the next 2 1/2 seasons,
going 7-6 with a 2.60 ERA in 171 games. He was traded to the Florida Marlins on
July 30, 2004 with catcher Paul Lo Duca and outfielder Juan Encarnacion for
pitcher Brad Penny and first baseman Hee-Seop Choi.
Mota later pitched for the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, New York Mets and
Brewers. He had his best season in 2003, going 6-3 with one save and a 1.97 ERA
in 76 games for the Dodgers. He has an overall record of 33-35 with eight saves
and a 3.97 ERA in 548 games.
In addition to his base salary, Mota can earn up to $300,000 in incentives
based on games finished.
