[外電] Dodgers may play spring set in Taiwan
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Dodgers, who played an exhibition series in China during
Spring Training of 2008, are in talks to play another exhibition series in
Taiwan during the Spring Training of 2010.
"As an organization, we're always looking for ways to expand the game of
baseball internationally and in doing so, we have had conversations with MLB
International about the possibility of playing a couple games in Taiwan this
spring," said Josh Rawitch, vice president of communications.
Any trip would require the club send a split squad, which no doubt would
include left-handed reliever Hong-Chih Kuo and infielder Chin-lung Hu,
natives of Taiwan. Another split squad would remain behind to play games in
the Cactus League.
The Dodgers were the first Major League team to play in Taiwan in 1993 when
they competed against the Chinese Professional League All-Stars. In 1996,
they established a working relationship with the Sinon Bulls of the Chinese
Professional League.
Kuo was the first Taiwanese high-school player to sign a professional
contract in 2000. Kuo and Hu recently held a clinic in Taiwan.
The Dodgers organization has a long history of expanding the game of baseball
internationally, including an exhibition game in Mexico City in 2003, and
owner Frank McCourt has shown he intends to continue to explore foreign
markets.
