[歐錦]Serbia & Montenegro to experiment
BELGRADE, Oct 6 (Reuters)
Serbia and Montenegro coach Ilija Petkovic has included uncapped Red Star
Belgrade defenders Dragan Sarac and Milan Dudic in his squad for the Euro
2004 qualifier against Wales in Cardiff on Saturday.
The pair earned their call-ups after impressive displays for Red Star in
the domestic league and the UEFA Cup in the past few weeks.
Serbia and Montenegro, on nine points, are out of contention in Group Nine
but Saturday's game is of significance to Wales, who are second on 13 points,
one less than leaders Italy.
Petkovic, who has achieved a win over Wales and a draw against Italy since
taking over from Dejan Savicevic in July, left out several experienced
players and will test some youngsters with a view to the next World Cup
qualifying campaign.
Dejan Stefanovic, Mladen Krstajic, Predrag Djordjevic and Igor Duljaj have
all been given a weekend off to make way for an experimental side at the
Millennium Stadium.
OFK Belgrade midfielder Boris Vaskovic and Zeleznik Belgrade defender
Slobodan Markovic have been recalled while influential midfielders Dejan
Stankovic and Zvonimiur Vukic return after missing the match with Italy
through suspension.
Emerging striker Danijel Ljuboja, yet to make his full debut, could be
preferred to Mateja Kezman, whose goal drought for the national team has
been in sharp contrast with his prolific scoring record for his Dutch club
PSV Eindhoven.
