[歐錦]Baric calls up Kranjcar for play-offs
ZAGREB, Nov 5 (Reuters)
Croatia coach Otto Baric has called up 19-year old Dinamo Zagreb
playmaker Niko Kranjcar for the two Euro 2004 playoff games against
Slovenia later this month.
The uncapped offensive midfielder has excelled this season at his
club and in the under-21 team, overcoming Baric's doubts about his
fitness and experience.
Croatia host Slovenia on November 15 and travel to Ljubljana four
days later for the return leg with their neighbours.
'These are two extremely serious games,' Baric told a news conference.
'There is no reason whatsoever to think of ourselves as favourites.
We must not do anything wrong here.'
Apart from Kranjcar, the rest of the squad presented few surprises.
Baric has not included Liverpool defender Igor Biscan, who walked out
on the squad in a previous game, despite his comments that he might
do so should Biscan 'deserve it'.
'All the players are fit, which is not something I can say very often,'
Baric said. 'But we will need a team that can give its best.'
The only regular missing from the squad will be Bayern Munich defender
Robert Kovac, who will sit out the first leg because of suspension.
One minor worry was the fitness of left winger Milan Rapaic, who signed
for Italian side Ancona this week after being without a club and proper
training this season.
'We have to see what he can do in training,' Baric said.
