[歐錦]Slovenia playoff squad has experience
LJUBLJANA, Nov 3 (Reuters)
Slovenia coach Bojan Prasnikar named an experienced 21-man squad
for his side's Euro 2004 playoffs against Croatia on November 15
in Zagreb and four days later in Ljubljana.
'The two matches will be played by those that have brought us to
the playoffs, thanks to their knowledge, dedication and desire.
It would be extremely unusual to experiment on such important
matches,' Prasnikar told reporters.
'Sometimes, we need to think of the group, of how players know
each other on and off the field, ahead perhaps of the temporary
form of a player,' he said.
Uncapped Borut Mavric of Olimpija Ljubljana was named in the squad
as the third goalkeeper following his good recent performances.
'He's in good form and he has always been there, close to the squad,'
Prasnikar said.
He also said he had left a spot in the squad to be filled by a fourth
striker before the end of the week.
'I have three names -- Damir Pekic (Maribor), Marko Vogric (Ajdovscina)
and Ermin Rakovic (Murska Sobota) -- and I will probably decide after
Wednesday's round of the Slovenian league,' he said.
Slovenia's coach also warned of possible problems in naming his side
for the second leg as six players have one yellow card and could be
banned for the second match against Croatia.
'We don't have the wide choice of players to compensate for such a
loss and overcome easily problems like this. Though I have some
potential substitutes in case we would need them after the first
match in Zagreb,' he said.
