Orioles optioned Jim Johnson to Triple-A Norfolk.
It was a steep drop for Johnson, who was tabbed as the closer when Mike
Gonzalez hit the disabled list earlier this year. He blew three of the four
save opportunities he was given and posted a 6.52 ERA and a 1.97 WHIP, so it
isn't as though he hasn't earned this demotion. Hopefully Johnson can find
his stuff again and rejoin the Orioles, who are hurting for any type of
consistent bullpen help they can get. Johnson was optioned to make room for
Saturday's starter Brad Bergesen.
