Red Sox could call up Middlebrooks on Wed.
Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports that prospect third baseman Will Middlebrooks
could be promoted to the majors as soon as Wednesday.
Middlebrooks is expected to get his first call-up to the majors if Kevin
Youkilis (back) isn't healthy enough to play Wednesday. The 23-year-old third
baseman is hitting .333/.380/.677 with nine homers, 27 RBI and a 1.057 OPS
over his first 24 games with Triple-A Pawtucket this season. He recently
missed some time with a jammed thumb, but went 0-for-4 in his return to the
lineup Tuesday. Those in AL-only leagues would be wise to stash him away in
case he gets the call.
