Biography
Patrick Kluivert became part of FC Barcelona in September
1998, just as the league transfer window was about to close.
Joan Gaspart travelled to Milan and managed to sign this
great forward whom Van Gaal greatly desired.
The present Barca number 9 stood out from a young age and
joined Ajax were he made his debut at the tender age of 18.
He had already made his full international debut with Holland
and became a regular face in subsequent Dutch squads.
font face="Arial, Helvetica" size="1">The most important
moment in his career came in season 94-95 when he won the
Champions League. Kluivert scored the only goal of the final
against Milan and gave Ajax their fourth European Cup. It was
then that the doors of Europe opened up for him and it was in
fact AC Milan that signed him. However, he did not adapt well
to Italy and he arrived at Barcelona in season 1998-1999.
Position
In the company of Van Gaal, Kluivert has again found the thrill
of playing with a manager who made him what he is today, a
European Cup winner. Wearing the colours of FC Barcelona he has
made the central attacking position his own. He stands out for
his ability to play with his back to goal and open up spaces for
his team-mates and also for his goal-scoring ability.
He is a different type of player, capable of the impossible with
the ball at his feet. He is also very quick and intelligent and
he also possesses a very special trait: he always thinks of the
team first and foremost and puts himself in second place as well
as being excellent off the ball.
