Couto ready for Parma comeback

Fernando Couto has returned to the Gialloblu after a decade and hopes to
feature against Chievo – the club that sacked Coach Mario Beretta last term.
"I am very happy to be back in Parma, where I had a memorable first year in
Italy," said the Portuguese defender. "It's a city I know well and want to see
back at the top of the football tree. I'm here to offer my experience and
desire to win in this game."
The centre-back was out of contract with Lazio and chose to go back to the
Stadio Tardini, even if they are no longer challenging for the trophies he
sought when he was last here.
"There is everything we need to do well this season, which is why I had no
doubts despite receiving other prestigious offers."
Some would suggest that the 35-year-old is no longer up to the task of top
flight football, but the ex-Barcelona man denies these claims.
"I'm the same fighter as always and haven't lost any of my grit, although a
bit more wisdom has tempered the more reckless aspects of my game. If I score
a goal, I'll still do my famous flip celebration, although it'll be a lot more
tiring than it once was!"
Couto looks set to start from the bench, as Daniele Bonera and Paolo Cannavaro
are back in the side. Domenico Morfeo and Mark Bresciano should support lone
striker Bernardo Corradi.
It will be an important match for Coach Beretta, who was fired by Chievo
towards the end of last season.
"We know it'll be a special occasion for him, but we must try to get ourselves
back on track with the right concentration and mentality," said Chievo
midfielder Franco Semioli.
