SL Benfica have suffered a blow to their UEFA Champions League aspirations
after learning that captain Simao will probably be out for the rest of the
season with an ankle injury.

Ankle twist
The 26-year-old winger twisted his left ankle and strained ligaments during
the first half of Sunday's 1-1 draw at CD Nacional and subsequent tests have
revealed that the Portuguese international will almost certainly not play
another league game this term. Benfica are in third place in the Portuguese
Liga, two points behind Lisbon rivals Sporting Clube de Portugal with two
matches, at home against Vitoria FC and at FC Pacos de Ferreira, remaining.

Benfica need to finish in second position to qualify automatically for the
UEFA Champions League group stage, as ending the season in third would
require Ronald Koeman's men to negotiate the third qualifying round. Simao,
meanwhile, may also be in danger of missing out on a place in Portugal's FIFA
World Cup squad.
Benfica需要取得第２名才能自動取得下賽季歐冠的小組賽名額，
如果是第３名的話，Ronald Koeman的球員們將要打第３輪的資格賽。
