He played under Chelsea's boss at lower-league club AD Leiria and was one of Mourinho's first signings at Porto, where he went on to win the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup and two Portuguese championships. Nuno Valente was Portugal's left back for five matches at UEFA Euro 2004, including the final.
