http://www.goal.com/en-us/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=142358 (Seleccao): Scolari "I Never Expected A Walkover" 08/10/2006 12.01 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Portugal's Brazilian boss, Luiz Felipe Scolari, exhibited a mix of content happiness and relief after the match against Azerbaijan. The Coach highlighted the fact that Portugal's win should be valued more than some people are willing due to the rocky nature of the rival team. "I never expected a walkover or easy street. I always expect difficulties as is normal in any football match. What we saw was a rocky opponent who complicated our attack until we managed to score the first goal", Felipao explained to Portuguese TV station RTP. "Players have to try their luck more often, give it a go from distance. We have been working on that, but there is a temptation to set opportunities up only inside the area with a nice build-up and everything beautiful. What actually matters is scoring, not how great it looks", he underlined. "It's is a tough deal to confront a team that plays nine footballers behind the ball. You have to really keep your eyes peeled on the possibility of a counter-attack as everybody tends to focus on the rival goal. It's a double-edged weapon", added a Scolari explaining his anxiety on the sidelines. "The team has now gotten into its stride. The players are already two or three notches above how they were against Denmark [Portugal lost 4-2 in Copenhagen] or Finland [the 1-1 draw that supposed the Euro 2008 qualifying debut] so we'll be able to show more of our real game from here on in", he added. Luiz Felipe Scolari had mentioned the aim of winning four point as a base against Azerbaijan and Poland, but now wants his men to try and go the extra mile to make it six points with a win over the Poles on Wednesday. "We should play for the win as that would make everything [the classification for Switzerland and Austria] a whole lot easier. Then again if things get too hot, we'll close up our rearguard and seal the draw", explained the tactician before using a curious metaphor. "If you can't buy a three bedroom apartment then you should be happy with a two bedroom one. That's my philosophy despite many in Portugal not understanding it", Felipao explained in allusion to the fact that despite the win being the ideal, sometimes you have to settle for less. He rounded things off with a numerical target for the Seleccao das Quinas. "We want to tote up 28 points as that's what's important because it qualifies us for the Finals. The media always does their maths, so do I. The players know that and we'll do our best to get there as soon as possible", he concluded. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.228.135.244
