Sporting coach rues display

Sporting coach Paulo Bento was disappointed that his side failed to shine in
Italy as their 1-0 defeat at Internazionale left them with a Uefa Cup spot at
best.
The Portuguese side begun the day with aspirations of beating the Italians
into second spot in Group B, but Hernan Crespo's first half strike meant
third place is now the limit of their ambition.
If Sporting avoid defeat in the final group game against Spartak Moscow on
December 5 then they will secure the consolation of Uefa Cup football, and
Bento was disappointed that his charges were unable to step up to the plate
at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
"We weren't as strong as we should have been," said Bento.
"We struggled at the start and then couldn't create chances. We only started
playing after they scored.
"We had the better of the game after the break but we lacked the quality and
couldn't produce the right finish. Inter deserved the win.
"I'm sorry we couldn't reach our goal in this competition."
