shirts after FC Porto maintained their hegemony in the Lusitanian footballing
elite…
Coach Jesualdo Ferreira was proud to celebrate his first Bwin Liga win at 60
years old. "We got past the suspicions of many and proved that we were the
best, continue to be the best and are just champions", relished the tactician.
Ferreira had made the short trip from cross-town rivals Boavista to fill in
for the suddenly departed Co Adriaanse at the start of the season. Despite
the short notice and unruly atmosphere that the Dutchman had left, Jesualdo
Ferreira managed to keep the level up.
"I am a very happy man and would like to stress that this is a communal
victory that owes a lotto not just the players and coaching staff, but the
President, technical team, medical team and everybody who works at FC Porto",
he underlined.
Veteran keeper Vitor Baia, often in the shadow of now-number 1 Helton,
managed to play a few minutes and was also in celebratory mood. "It is a
title that cost a lot as we faced ups and downs, but it is all the more
sweeter for it", he explained
As to his future plans – that may or may not include retirement from active
football – the ex-Portugal number1 was reserved. "Theres time to talk about
that over the next few weeks, but right now I just want to celebrate this
title", he grinned.
The FC Porto players celebrated with the fans at the Estadio do Dragao, all
wearing T-Shirts stamped with: Campeoes 2007 (Champions 2007). The party
lasted long into the night with the inevitable strains of Queens We Are The
Champions playing in the background and fans revelling in the double-tap.
