Werder Bremen have taken the option to make Hugo Almeida's move from FC Porto
permanent, with the 22-year-old committing to the Bundesliga outfit until
2011.
'Bright future'
The imposing forward scored five times in his 28 league appearances this
season as Bremen finished third and reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals. His
form has been enough to convince the German side to secure his future at the
Weserstadion, giving Hugo Almeida a huge boost just two days before his 23rd
birthday. "For weeks we have intended to keep Hugo Almeida," said sporting
director Klaus Allofs, who brought in the twice-capped Portuguese
international on loan last summer. "We see big potential in him, he has a
bright future at Werder."
