Stand-in Coach Flavio Murtosa and his men were content in the wake of a
first win with the second-in-command standing in for Luiz Felipe Scolari in
charge of the Seleccao das Quinas as her pocketed the three points on offer
and finds his mission to bring six golden points back to Portugal halfway
accomplished…
"I believe that we attained what we were looking for, which was a win at all
costs. It wasn't a great game full of wonderful moments, but it was a
hard-earned victory in which we attained our objective, so I'm content with
the result", explained the softly-spoken assistant Coach.
Centre-back Bruno Alves was over the moon "It was a great game, one of those
where you remember the play clearly because everybody was so focused on
winning – and especially because it was my first goal for the national side",
explained the FC Porto defender, one of Scolari's newer incorporations.
Another player who felt the special nature was a Miguel Veloso who played his
debut game at absolute level. "The shirt that I wore is going straight to my
parents as I'm obviously very proud of starting my Seleccao career, although
I still could play for the Under-21s if needed – my country's needs are
paramount", he beamed.
Hugo Almeida, who scored the second, was also smiling in the wake of the win.
"I did feel butterflies in the stomach as it was my first time as a starter
for the Seleccao", explained the man who came on for Nuno Gomes in the
warm-up, "but that went as the adrenalin started and I couldn't be happier."
